Counterpoint

As a general reminder, you will be presenting your completed fugue in front of/to a panel (over Zoom) as your final exam (at the end of the semester).

Recap of progress thus far:

MVT 1. By this point in time everybody should have the first eight measures done, followed by eight empty measures (which will be filled later with different versions of sequences (which should be worked on in a separate file)).
MVT 2. In relative key two measures of fugue
once you begin the section with the relative key this denotes the beginning of the second section of the fugue.

General Fugue Outline:

Expect each section of the fugue to have at least 16 measures (you can always add a few more):

i. 16 measures of the first part until the relative key
ii. After the first two measures of fugue in relative key, there should be 14 empty measures (to be filled with intermedias (different sequences which are from the other files you’re working on, see video below)
iii. Again, three voices in tonic (in your main key), using a combination of the voices you haven’t used yet (i.e. if you used the main melody in the top voice, and in relative you use the melody and the bottom voice, now you can use it in the middle voice).
Stretas! (Homework form last week) Meaning we use the main melody in all three voices, coming in at different times.
(See video posted on Homework Page)

Encore Pro tips/ Helpful Hints:

• Adding measure numbers make things a lot easier to find and/or adjust later.
• Add double bar lines at the end of each section so you know where the new section begins (the skinny bar lines the second row).
• In the upper right-hand corner, you’ll find that each of the files can be opened simultaneously by minimizing or reducing the size of the window of the files.
• By default, rests only appear in the 1st and 5th voice. To see the rests in the other voices, go to view -> Show/Hide and in the bottom right-hand corner make sure all the checkboxes are clicked
