Lark Musical Society:
Promoting Classical Music Through Education and Research
Established in 1989, The Lark Musical Society is a non-profit, multi-disciplinary cultural organization dedicated to promoting Armenian aesthetic and intellectual values. Founded by a group of Armenian-American musicians, teachers, and community leaders, the society’s vision was to infuse their community with high caliber artistic programs, and since then, The Lark Musical Society has become a leading cultural institution and music instutiion in Southern California.
The Lark Musical Society’s overarching plan was laid out in three phases. The first required the creation and management of volunteer groups to organize various musical functions, and thereby build up a community around artistic events. The second phase intended to create a conservatory with a focus on musical and performance education, while the third and final phase envisioned the formation of a research institute to study and explore Armenian arts and music.
Over the years, The Lark Musical Society has achieved significant accomplishments. To date, Lark has organized over 1000 concert events, published 30 plus scholarly treatises and musical anthologies, produced 5 compact discs, hosted numerous symposia and lectures, garnered commendations and awards on the state, national, and international level, and established itself as a vibrant feature, not only of the Armenian Diaspora, but of the Southern California Arts Community.
At the core of Lark Musical Society’s educational efforts is the Lark Music Conservatory, which offers a Western Classical Music curriculum to students of all races, colors, and national and ethnic origins. The society’s policy is to admit students to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school, without discrimination on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, or sexual orientation.
Through its dedication to promoting Classical Music and fostering the talents of aspiring musicians, The Lark Musical Society has become a prominent force within the Los Angeles Armenian community. Whether you’re interested in Music Lessons, performance education, or research into Armenian arts and music, The Lark Musical Society has something to offer, and we invite you to join us!
